The Heroes of the Storm team already revealed that they want to fix stealth for the game in the coming year, and today at BlizzCon’s Hero Deep Dive they went into detail on what changes they’re implementing to make stealth characters more fun, both to play as and against. That means changes for four heroes – Nova, Valeera, Samuro, and Zeratul.
Check out our Heroes of the Storm beginner’s guide.
With Nova, they’re taking a modified version of the Snipe Master talent and applying it to her baseline, allowing her to stack increased damage with subsequent snipes until she misses. She’ll also be seeing a 15% movement speed while in stealth, and a new active ability on the 1 key to instantly jump back into her cloak.
The duration on Valeera’s Garrote silence will be increased, and while Cheap Shot’s stun duration will decrease a blind effect will be added. If she remains vanished for at least three seconds, the next vanish she uses will have increased range and can teleport her behind the target.
A detail from Samuro’s level 10 heroic ability, Illusion Master, will now instead be part of a trait, allowing him to swap places with an illusion on the D key starting at level 1. Mirror Image will no longer see him randomly placed, as he’ll now spawn to whichever position is closest to your mouse cursor. His overall damage will remain mostly the same, but less of that damage will be coming from the illusions and more of it will be coming from Samuro himself.
![Stealth Stealth](/uploads/1/2/3/7/123714846/378247412.jpg)
Vorpal Blade will now be a baseline ability for all Zeratul players, so whenever he attacks an enemy hero, the 1 key will allow him to teleport back to that character. Shadow Assault will be replaced with a new heroic ability called Might of the Nerazim. Currently this ability has a cooldown of 15 seconds, and using it will reactivate whatever your last used ability was.

Many changes that are coming to Heroes of the Storm were announced at the BlizzCon 2017 and the trailer for Hanzo and Alexstrasza, the next hereos that will be joining the Nexus, was released at the opening ceremony. Along with the new heroes, changes in stealth mode and Fort ammo are also coming for more exciting gameplay. Below is an interview with Alan Dabiri, the Game Director for Heroes of the Storm, on the upcoming changes for Heroes of the Storm.
Q. Why did you decide to add Hanzo and Alextrasza as new heroes?
Choosing new heroes is a complicated process. We have to think about what role the new heroes are going to play, and which universe they are from. Also, we need to listen to the community as well. Hanzo and Alextrasza meet these conditions, and they are loved by the community. They have a lot of features that do not exist in HotS at the moment, so we decided to add them to the Nexus. You can call them the “Double Dragon.”
Q. New systems like the clan system, hero switch system, and the stat overview system which were announced last year are not available in the game yet. When will these changes come to HotS?
The Hero switch system is available in the eSports scene right now. It is still an experimental feature, and we will decide whether the system is necessary for the general playerbase. We are considering the possibility, but are still testing the system. Like the ban system, which was not available at first but was implemented later, we would like to take some time before the hero switch system goes live for the general playerbase.
We do have a tool that shows player stats. The information of hero details and hero abilities on the official website was developed using that tool. The tool is based on the API that was developed within the company. The tool still has to be developed and has some issues that have to be fixed, so it will take some time before we can make the tool available for the general playerbase.
It takes a while for the information revealed at BlizzCon to be available on the live server, and you might feel like you’ve been waiting for the update for too long. But we can assure the players that the announced systems are in the pipeline and will go live as soon as they are ready. I hope you are looking forward to the changes.
Also, I think that the clan system is very interesting. But I want a clan system that is unique to HotS. I want the clan system to be something special, something that our players can truly enjoy.

Q. Team composition is extremely important in HotS, and sometimes we can’t win in Quick Play because team composition doesn’t work. Are you aware of this issue, or will there be any changes regarding this issue?
The purpose of Quick Play is to pick the hero you want to play and play a fast-paced match. If you want to play a game in a well organized team, you can play Unranked Draft. However, I do think that Quick Play needs more balanced team comps. There were many changes related to team balance made to Quick Play since the launch of HotS, but it is still hard to have a perfect team comp.
Q. Players like to play Quick Play because they can’t play Ranked games casually. They might feel that Ranked games are too hard because of the picks and bans. Is there any plan to add the blind pick system to Ranked games?
Even if you play a blind pick game, there is still a chance that you can’t pick the hero you want to play due to the team composition or because your teammates don’t like your pick. But blind pick is not completely off the table. Quick Play is meant for you to play whatever hero you want to play. There will be more changes to Quick Play, and I hope you are looking forward to them.
Q. What do you think of a system where you can choose a 2nd or 3rd hero, to make matchmaking more flexible?
That could be a possibility, but I think the random pick is kind of similar to that. It is easier to make an organized team with a random pick, so the random pick system can help you with that.
Another pick system that we are thinking about right now is a system where you pick a role, not a hero, first and then pick a hero within that role after joining a party. This is not confirmed, but we are considering different options including this one.
Q. Some people whisper to other people after blocking whispers so they don’t see any replies. Can you make a system where people who block whispers cannot whisper to others?
That is an interesting idea, but I think it might be a bug. If you check “do not receive whispers” and then whisper to someone, you can still receive messages from that person. I’ll check if there is a bug after this interview.

Q. Alexstrasza is a support hero, and the community has been asking for a support hero. What kind of feedback and suggestions did you receive from the community?
We wanted Alextrasza to be a support hero because I know people want a new support hero, but that is not the only reason why she is a support hero. Last year, we got feedback that the support heroes are not fun to play and there are limits on what heroes can be played. We wanted to introduce a support hero that is unique and fun to play this year.
Simply healing allies is not fun at all. Alexstrasza will heal allies in a different way. For example, Stukov heals allies in a very uncommon way. Alexstrasza will heal allies by sacrificing her own HP, so you always have to watch your HP when playing her.
Q. Hanzo, a character from the Overwatch universe, is coming to HotS and there are a lot of HotS features in Overwatch’s new map, Blizzard World. Do the devs for the two games work together?
We don’t particularly cooperate, but there are many cases in Blizzard where the devs from different games work together and Blizzard World is one of those. The devs in the Overwatch team asked for feedback from other teams. It not exactly a colaboration, but we gave feedback and shared some parts of the progress.
Q. Fort ammo became infinite. Will the game be longer?
We are satisfied with the current game duration, and don’t want to make it any longer. We want to keep it at 20 minutes give or take. If the infinite ammo makes the game longer, we will make it shorter again by adjusting object damage and minion damage. We tested the infinite ammo, and it did not make the game last longer.
Q. You said that stealthed heroes will be more visible. Will there be a buff for stealth heroes for those who like to play stealth heroes?
We made the changes in stealth heroes because we wanted more strategic gameplay for stealth heroes, rather than just a simple eyesight test. There will be some big changes for stealth heroes. For example, Nova will have an ability to enter stealth mode while using another skill, and her movement speed will increase when she is stealthed. Also, she will have Snipe Master as a base ability. There are more changes that I can’t talk about right now. I can share more details in the panel that will be held this afternoon.
Q. Heroes like Medivh will not receive any buffs from these changes in stealth. Will there be any additional changes for them?
The Talents that have stealth will be affected by the changes. Hammer and Greymane will be affected by the changes as well. Medivh’s Talents might be reworked later.
Q. Will graphic cards affect the new stealth mode?
We cannot say that hardware doesn’t matter. In low graphical settings, the new stealth graphics might look like the old stealth graphics. But the new stealth graphics will be intact in Standard graphical settings or above. Also, the gap between low and high graphical settings will be reduced with these changes.
Q. Will you tell me the reason for the changed rules for the HGC 2018?
It is hard for me to share any details regarding the eSports scene for HotS. I think our eSports personnel should give you the details. The information I can share with you is that all broadcast will support 1080p. Also, starting from the HGC 2018, all teams must have an owner, so that the owner can take care of administrative issues and the players can focus on matches.
There are also changes with the Open Division, and I think the person who’s in charge of eSports should give you the details. I’m just giving you a general rule here, as specific rules might be different according to tournaments and/or regions.
Q. Any last words for the fans?
Thank you for loving HotS. I believe that Alextrasza and Hanzo will be fun to play, and you will love them. The HotS 2.0 patch focused on the structure of the game, and the updates in 2018 will focus more on the gameplay. The new changes will go live as the new season starts. Please look forward to that, and thank you.

'Heroes of the Storm' Kicks Off Winter’s Veil Holiday Event
by Rainier on Dec. 13, 2017 @ 8:02 a.m. PST
Originally called Blizzard DOTA, then Blizzard All-Stars, Heroes of the Storm is Blizzard's own free-to-play take on the Massively Online Battle Arena genre, featuring heroes and villains from the Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo franchises.
In Heroes, the epic battles between the champions and villains of Warcraft, StarCraft, and Diablo aren’t settled with last hits and kill-stealing--players are distinguished through the accomplishments of their team.
Whether you’re a hardcore WoW raider, a demon-slaying Barbarian, or a Bronze league Terran, you’ll find a customizable hero from across the Blizzard multiverse to suit your play style. Grab your buddies and engage in fast-paced mayhem across varied battlegrounds that impact strategy and change the way you play every match. When the mightiest characters in gaming history clash, only you can decide who’ll come out on top! Sims 4 baby custom content.
Characters like Thrall, Kerrigan, Diablo, Arthas, Zeratul, Tyrael—powerful warriors from Azeroth, Sanctuary, the Koprulu sector, and beyond--have been sucked into the Nexus, a transdimensional storm. Stranded in a strange limbo of clashing universes, these combatants are joined by the same fate—to engage in pulse-pounding combat, to team up in a deadly struggle for survival . . . and to answer the age-old question..
It’s an exciting day in the Nexus—the Winter’s Veil season event has begun and players can now enjoy many of the new 2018 Gameplay Updates announced at this year’s BlizzCon, as well as a brand-new Hero—Hanzo!
- New Hero – Hanzo: One of the Shimada Clan’s deadliest assets, Hanzo is a nimble, long-ranged Assassin who can pick enemies off from afar and scout for his team. Today he joins his brother Genji in a new frontier: the Nexus!
- RYUU GA WAKA TEKI WO KURAU! Unleash the fury of Hanzo’s iconic Dragonstrike ultimate from Overwatch, or opt for a powerful snipe with global range in Dragon’s Arrow.
- See through the dragon’s eyes: Hanzo’s Sonic Arrow allows him to gain vision of hard-to-reach areas. His trait Natural Agility lets him jump over terrain, making him an adept scout for any composition.
- Learn more about the Shimada clan’s master assassin here, and check out his Hero Spotlight video here.
- 2018 Gameplay Updates: First announced at BlizzCon 2017, this collection of gameplay changes in the Nexus is now live!
- A New Perspective: We’ve tweaked the game’s camera perspective to give players a better view of the battlefield, allowing for more clarity when it comes to big moments like teamfights.
- Updating Stealth: Stealth mechanics have been updated to make sneaky Heroes more strategic and fun to play against. In addition, Stealth Heroes have received updates to their kits to make the most of these changes—check out our blog post for more info on the Stealth rework!
- Refining the Early Game: We wanted to make laning more meaningful and give individual players opportunities to shine, so we’ve introduced some changes to achieve those goals without increasing overall game length.
- Towers now have infinite ammunition, encouraging players to actively push lanes with their minions to destroy forts.
- Stand-alone towers have been removed, but the experience they granted and the damage they dealt has been distributed among other structures.
- Each map’s first objective timer has been standardized to either 90 seconds or three minutes. Both have a 30-second warning, so players have time to prepare.
- Regen Globes will now transition into a neutral state after a few seconds, allowing them to be picked up by either team, making actions in the lane matter more.
- For a look at all of the laning changes we’re making, check out our blog post for more information!
- Mercenary Updates: We’ve updated Mercenary Camps with the goal of making them more strategically impactful during a match. For example, casters in a Knight Camp now have an aura that increases the Spell Armor of units within range, and Hellbats reduce the armor of heroes they attack.
- Support Changes: Over the last several months, we’ve seen double Support team compositions become increasingly prevalent in all levels of play. As a result, we’ve made some changes to Support Heroes in the hopes of encouraging more diversity when it comes to team compositions. We’ll be introducing slight decreases in damage, healing, and health, as well as reduced wave clear efficiency for these Heroes. Read our blog post for more info on the Support changes.
- Performance-Based Matchmaking: We’ve further increased the accuracy of our matchmaking system by taking players’ individual performance and contributions into account after each match, rather than relying solely on victory or defeat. Read our blog post to learn more about this new system.
- ‘Tis the Season: Starting today until January 9, players can celebrate the holiday season in-game with Winter’s Veil! Play 10 games during this period to complete the Winter’s Veil quest chain and earn a special spray, banner, portrait, and mount!
- Gifting Loot Chests: And don’t forget to spread some holiday cheer by gifting Winter Loot Chests to other Battle.net friends through the web shop! Find out more at the Winter Veil event page.
- New Bundle: The Foundation Bundle, available now for 2,000 gems, is perfect for helping new players get into the game with a varied, versatile roster of Heroes across all roles. E.T.C, Leoric, Greymane, Kerrigan, Li-Ming, Uther, Lúcio, and Zagara are all included, and the bundle will be available in the in-game shop.

Meta heroes define the metagame. They are very often banned or picked right away, as they generally dictate the pace of most drafts and matches.
Generalists form the core of your team and are generally picked after Meta picks have been distributed. They tend to work on most maps, and as part of and against most team compositions. Since this group includes most heroes, I elected to split it into three tiers. High-tier rankings are a result of performance (i.e. win rates) and popularity (i.e. pick and ban rates). This means that heroes with high win rates can be set in low tier; the opposite may also be true.
Situational picks shine on specific maps or as part of specific team compositions.

Update, November 21: An AMA about the latest Heroes of the Storm update is happening next week. Sven co op servers mod.
Ahead of the latest Heroes of the Storm update (currently on the PTR), a collection of devs will be running an AMA on the game’s subreddit, discussing changes to the early-game and stealth, as well as the new camera perspective.
Here’s everything we know about the Heroes of the Storm version of Alexstrasza, the game’s next hero.
According to a thread created by community manager Ravinix, there’ll be eight developers taking part in the AMA. They include Kent-Erik Hagman, the game’s lead hero designer, andTravis McGeathy, the lead game designer. For a full rundown of everyone taking part, check out the thread above.
The AMA will begin at 12:00 PST on Wednesday, November 29, and will run for around 1.5 hours. On the morning of the AMA, a questions thread will be going up on the subreddit, allowing players to submit questions in advance.
Update, November 20:Heroes of the Storm’s big 2018 gameplay update is live for testing on the PTR.
The latest Heroes of the Storm update has hit the PTR, bringing with it all the usual balance tweaks, the debut of Hanzo, and the 2018 gameplay update overhaul. The gameplay update is the biggest part of what Blizzard want to playtest, and that means whileHanzo has been addedto the game, he won’t be available for play until next week.
This update also introduces the promised performance-based matchmaking system, measuring your ranking by tactics and performance rather than just wins and losses.
Big changes are in store for stealth heroes as well, which we were told to expect at BlizzCon. Nova, Zeratul, Valeera, and Samuro all get major changes up and down the line to make playing as or against them more interesting.
The larger gameplay update means lots of changes to general game mechanics, with everything from towers to minions getting tweaked across the board. You can check out the full set of updates at the official site.
Original Story, November 3:There’s far more to be revealed at Blizzcon 2017, but the opening ceremony gave us a quick look at Heroes of the Storm’s new characters and gameplay improvements. You can see it all in the video above.
The two most extreme parts of this are laning changes and the stealth rework. On the laning front, game director Alan Dabiri tells us that this is about making early-game 1v1s more fun and more impactful. “As we started to develop more of our battlegrounds,” says Dabiri, “we started making more of these map mechanics where we pulled you out of that moment [to shine in a 1v1] and everyone came together and had a great team fight – which is cool. But we thought that there wasn’t enough time for you to shine on your own, individually.”
To that end, they’re making “a bunch” of changes to make players engaging in those 1v1 battles feel more powerful, so that they can show off their skills with their hero of choice, and earn meaningful reward for coming up on top that will lead to better chances for victory in the game.
One of the changes being made is increasing minion damage, meaning killing your opponent and hitting their towers is far more deadly even if your own hero has to go back or doesn’t do much siege damage. That’s a two-birds situation because it also stops games increasing in length even with a larger focus on the early game.
While some recent changes have contributed to longer games, the team are taking steps to keep that growth in check, as they don’t want it to go much past that “sweet spot” of 20 minutes. And when it comes to keeping those times in check, the team still have plenty of options.
“We can take some life out of individual structures,” says Dabiri, “we can make map objectives a little bit stronger, we can increase minion damage. We’ve actually done that in this case, which is why you want to win your lane and help those minions push towards the opposing structures. We have a lot of tools to bring that game time back into check.”
On the impact front, is an early death now going to snowball so heavily that it can end the game? No, they just want it to matter more. While Dabiri considers coming back from early deaths an important trait of HotS, he says “We do want a little more at stake.”
Primarily, they want early kills or lane victories to have more impact in the early game. “You are going to be set back a little bit,” says Dabiri, “just like anything where an action doesn’t work out – in those cases that’s where teamwork works out, where your team will come down and support you if you’re getting bullied in that lane or even taken out.”
For stealth, it’s been one of the most controversial, and difficult to balance, mechanics Heroes has ever had. World of Warcraft’s Valeera proved most recently almost impossible to get right. It’s a problem the team is well aware of, as it’s a eye-straining test for low-level players and completely trivial for the more highly skilled. Yet the team feels attached to stealth mechanics.
Heroes Of The Storm Updates
Dabiri explains that the solution involves pulling power out of the stealth mechanic and then doing balance changes to every hero that has used it in the past. Seeing stealth will now be easier, and assumed, at all skill levels.
First of all, Dabiri says they’re changing the visuals of the stealth shader. “It’s still stealthed but it is more noticable, so if you’re paying attention you are going to see that more so we’re moving more of this power from the eye-test to actually a streategic element. You’re still not visible on the minimap, you’re still not targetable, and so once we make this visual change we can bring some power back into those heroes.”
“With any hero there’s this power pie of where you get it, stealth characters got a lot of their power from the fact that they were stealthed. Now that we’re taking a little of that out we can make them stronger in other ways. Every single stealth hero has changes associated with this change to make them stronger.”
The upshot of this is that, in the future, they can keep making Heroes of the Storm characters with access to the stealth mechanic – but first, they want to make sure players are having fun fighting against stealth characters. “Once we’ve shifted that mentality a bit, maybe we could explore stealth heroes some more. Step one is we want to get this out on our test environment, get players playing with it and see where things go from there. If this is very successful we’d absolutely look at more stealth.”
When is all this coming? The updates are expected to hit the PTR toward the end of November or start of December, with the live patch to come sometime before the end of the year. Dabiri says it’s the most opportune time for the updates, since it’s between seasons for the HGC and the game’s own ranked seasons.
